Authorities report that three people died in a serious accident involving 10 vehicles on the California Pacific Coast Highway.

Newport Beach Fire Department Deputy Chief Ralph Restadius informed the Orange County Register that three other people were transported to the hospital in the accident on Sunday in Orange County, one of them was said to be in critical condition.

Two cars flipped over and some victims were stuck inside their cars.

Authorities report that the highway was shut down for hours following the crash and was supposed to be closed all night.

The highway runs up and down the California coast.
