Driver swerves to miss deer, crashes

A Wayland driver suffered minor injuries in a crash involving one vehicle at 3:10 p.m. Saturday on U.S. 136, one mile west of Wayland.

A Wayland driver suffered minor injuries in a crash involving one vehicle at 3:10 p.m. Saturday on U.S. 136, one mile west of Wayland.

Jesse J. Smith was transported by Clark County Ambulance to Keokuk (Iowa) Area Hospital for medical aide.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol said that an eastbound 2000 Mercury driven by Smith maneuvered quickly in hopes of avoiding a deer, overcorrected, swerved off the left side of the highway, hit an embankment, flipped over multiple times and came to a halt in a ditch. Smith was buckled properly.

The Clark County Sheriff’s Department, Clark County Rescue and the Wayland Fire Department all responded to the crash.
