Indiana state police report that the driver of a stolen car missed a blockade and ran into a state trooper instead, resulting in a serious leg injury.
State police informed that they received a call regarding a hit-and-run accident by LaPorte. According to officials, they saw the car and went after it around 6:30 p.m. CST Monday on Interstate 90, east of Gary.
About 17 miles west of the first collision, another trooper was placing his stop sticks when the car moved and struck him.
Sgt. Ann Wojas reported that 30-year-old Trooper George Hornsby underwent surgery at Gary’s North Lake Hospital. He will have more surgery on Tuesday afternoon.
Wojas said that the escaping car got off on northbound at Portage on Willowcreek Road. There was a male driver and white female passenger inside the car. The car had been called in as a stolen vehicle to police in the Gary area on Thursday, Wojas stated.
Police are looking for a 2003 silver Toyota Camry four-door with front-end damage and Indiana In God We Trust license plate JF1575.
