A car ran through a wall into a room where six children were playing at private elementary school located outside New Orleans and ended up wounding all sex kids, one of which was critically injured, authorities reported.

Officers rushed to save the children from underneath the broken down wall and from under the car, a spokesman for the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office stated.

He reported that the driver, who was a mother taking her child to school,”claims that as she pulled up, she thought she stepped on the brake but the vehicle went forward.” Jamleh Hamed, 32, of Harvey, was cited with negligent injury, he added.

There were no others in the room during the time of the crash. Hamed was approaching a parking space about a foot away from the room when she ran over the parking bumpers and  continued moving into the room. The car was pretty much fully through the wall besides the bumper and one back wheel.

Hamed was cited with negligent injury since the injuries were so serious, Fortunato stated.

Mark Deane of Terrytown reported that the incident occurred just before he arrived at the school to drop off his son.ed to drop off his son.

“The teachers were running around. It looked bad,” he informed The Times-Picayune. He said one child was underneath the car and another pinned against the wall. “They weren’t crying; they were scared.”

He described Hamel as “broken up.”

“I see her here every day dropping off and picking up kids,” Deane stated.

A 10-year-old boy was placed in intensive care in critical condition Wednesday night and a 9-year-old girl was said to be in good condition, stated Cathleen Randon, spokeswoman for Children’s Hospital. Fortunato stated that two other 10-year-old boys and two girls, ages 8 and 6, were transported to other area hospitals following the incident at 8:30 a.m.
