A South Florida man is being charged after he fell asleep while driving and ran into a neighborhood swimming pool early Thanksgiving morning.
The Broward Sheriff’s Office reported that two deputies discovered Charles Marckenson, 28, sleeping in his car in the parking lot of the Park Plaza Apartments at 5:40 a.m. with the engine turned on.
They knocked on his window to wake him from his sleeping state. Marckenson, a resident of the complex, woke up still half asleep and his car started moving forward slowly.
When officials informed him to take his foot off the gas he pressed it harder, driving through a playground at the complex, then a fence and ultimately moving through another fence at the apartments next door and driving into that complex’s swimming pool.
Officers leaped into the pool, broke on of the car’s windows and pulled out a now awake Marckenson from his car.
North Lauderdale Fire Rescue crews took Marckenson to a hospital to receive medical aide. He also had toxicology tests done. Charges are pending.
