A 2-year-old from Hiawatha passed away from serious injuries suffered in a collision on Thursday afternoon, in which the child was not wearing a seatbelt.
As reported by the Kansas Highway Patrol, a car with driver Emily Wichman, 23, was turning west out of a private road onto U.S. Highway 36 and Coyote Road. Her car was hit by a van traveling eastbound driven by Rebecca Woody, 27.
The 2-year-old was not safely buckled or seated in Ms. Wichman’s car, the patrol reported.
Ms. Wichman and Ms. Woody both were hurt in the incident and were transported to Hiawatha Community Hospital. The investigation is pending.
