Winter weather has begun and made driving conditions difficult on Friday with several accidents occurring in the morning in Marquette.
A car skid while turning the curve at the corner of Lakeshore Boulevard by the U.S. Coast Guard station and ran into a pole Friday morning.
Crews had to shut down Lakeshore Boulevard redirect traffic in order to fix a hanging power line as a result of the crash.
The driver suffered small injuries, with a cut on the forehead when the airbag released.
Law enforcement officials warn drivers that its that time of year to be more cautious on the road and driver at slower rates, keeping in mind that you may need more time than normal for traveling.
“All I can tell people is to learn to adapt to weather conditions, slow down – its not the same as driving in the summer,” stated Tim Forslund of the Marquette Police Department. ”You’re tires aren’t going to grip like the should, especially with the black ice out there.”
In accidents such as these, officials advise that the best thing to do is to stay in your car and contact officials for help.
